A movie I first learned about while researching Alien Resurrection and reading Joss Whedon say "I never wrote anything in the script about them fighting a big Pumpkinhead looking monster." - Pumpkinhead is the directorial debut of Stan Winston, and indeed the Newborn Xenomorph bears a striking resemblance to the titular monster, Pumpkinhead. With (blog post) the tail and the curve of Pumpkinhead's chin, it could be surmised it's design was partially inspired by the Xeno, but that's neither here nor (blog post) there. It's a movie about teens dying! AMAZING!
